For the first time since it’s been reported on, marijuana is more popular than cigarettes.
In 1969:
4% of Americans had ever tried marijuana
40% smoked a cigarette that week
Today:
16% of Americans have smoked marijuana in the past week
11% smoked a cigarette this week.
Hard to believe so many people swapping out their Marlboro Reds for Strawberry Kush, right? It certainly makes more sense of this…
Circle K is now selling weed out of their Florida locations, giving a fun new twist to “smoking gas”. Starting next year, lucky Floridians will be able to get their buds, gummies, munchies and window wiper fluid all in the same spot, thanks to a partnership between the gas station chain and Green Thumb Industries, a leading US weed producer.
Doesn’t this take away from the allure a little bit? I mean, buying a $20 bag from a dealer felt risqué, and buying “Sunday Cookie Crumble” from a dispensary felt boutique. But buying a gas station pre-roll just feels…lazy?
Maybe. But maybe that’s also just what normalized weed feels like…just another purchase in a quick stop at the store. It certainly feels easier than it used to be, and that’s generally a good thing.
